The night of March 6, 2016, was a fashionable night to remember. The Staples chapter of Best Buddies, held their fourth annual fashion show fundraiser in the school cafeteria.
“Best Buddies is an international organization that works toward social inclusion and job inclusion for people with intellectual or developmental disabilities,” Maya Lawande ’16, president of Best Buddies, said.
A silent auction, food and beverages and a fashion show were featured at the fundraiser. The silent auction had items that ranged from two New York Yankees tickets to a bundle of scarves donated by one of the members of Best Buddies.
Cabi, a boutique, granted dresses to Best Buddies, filling the runway with their colorful and unique pieces. “We had Cabi, which is a local boutique, give us the clothes for the fashion show. It’s Cabi designer clothing and it’s their casual spring attire line,” said Lawande.
A common fashion show can display a designer’s upcoming line, but in this particular fashion show it’s not just for fashion, it’s for a good cause.
Elizabeth Mathis ’18 who participated in the fashion show wore a denim shirt with a floral skirt and describes the event, “I had a wonderful time with friends. We were laughing, we ate, we looked around. It was really fun.”
