With summer on the horizon, one topic that has warped the minds of many males pertains to their clothing- shocker right. Yes, many male students at Staples are interested in buying the newest Vineyard Vines polo to match their new sperry shoes, however they are missing one article of clothing in this equation for the perfect outfit: jorts.
Jorts, jeans which are cut into shorts, are a necessity for the summer. These stylish bottoms are crafted from denim, a durable material, however they give room for movement and comfort.
Although these shorts differ from the typical fashion of male shorts: khaki, chino, linen and seersucker, this change is all worth it. Jorts pave the path to expression. Ranging from navy blue colored jorts to sky blue ones, the spectrum of color is infinite.
Ben Popkin ’16 believes that wearing jorts is essential in expressing what he is feeling.
“If I am having a bad day, I will put on my dark and dreary colored jorts. But when everything is all sunshine and rainbows I’ll throw on my pair of light colored jorts,” Popkin said.
Jeans symbolize ruggedness, hard work and Americanism. Most men who are seen in a pair of Levi's jeans and Timberland boots, well, you know they mean business. However, what do you do when it's a scorching 95 degrees outside?
You cut those jeans into jorts. That’s what you do. Not only are you maintaining your image of sturdiness, but you are making yourself far more comfortable to survive the summer heat.
At first, Connor Teran ’17 was afraid to be a trendsetter, but he doesn’t regret it.
“None of my friends own any jorts so it was scary trailblazing my own path. Yet, I love them. I am so glad I created my first pair of jorts,” Teran said.
He is not the only one who was scared. Will Landowne ’18 was not sure if his mom would approve of his new apparel.
“My mom is a big stickler in terms of the clothing I wear. At first she was not a fan of my new style of clothing, however that quickly changed after she saw me wearing them,” Landowne said.
Regardless of what people say, jorts is the way to go. Grab a pair of your old jeans and cut them, you will not regret your transformation.
With jorts becoming increasingly popular, the only question that comes to mind is, “are these jorts making me look fat?”

The 2016 Met Gala, an annual fundraiser for the New York City Metropolitan Museum of Art, was held on May 2. Stars came from all around the country to attend this year's ball, with its formal name as “Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology.” With T-Swifty as the events co-chair, nothing could stop this flow of celebrities from dominating the show.
Again and again New Yorkers will scram to the outskirts of the Met, just to watch the celebrities walk in. Last year Jessie Kaplan ’17 from Trevor Day High School in NYC watched the 2015 Met Gala from across the street, and “ooed” and “awed” at all of the celebrities.
“The other grand allure of the Met Gala comes from the extreme fashion statements celebrities somehow pull off,” Kaplan said. “This is the one event where it is okay to wear a beaded headpiece or rock a metallic bust. The fashion exudes a unique level of confidence that is near impossible to achieve.”
From the A-list celebrities, to the millions of New Yorkers, everyone is excited to see what the designers come up with for this event.
Here is a look at the 2016 Met Gala outfits.
Taylor Swift: As co-chair of the event, Taylor sports a Louis Vuitton dress, With her bleach blond haircut, and dark lips, this edgy dress with cutouts and ruffles are further proof that Taylor is no longer a country bumpkin but is creating her own path in the depths of the Hollywood style. Kim Kardashian Kanye West: With two young children at home, Kim showed up to the Met Gala wearing a timeless silver metallic Balmain dress. On the other hand, Kanye confidently showed up to the Met Gala wearing jeans and small boots.
