You spot the perfect dress. It’s a thin lace dress and you see it squished in between two poofy skirts. You launch towards it making sure nobody else takes it. When you finally get your hands on it, you realize it’s two sizes too big, and it’s the last one left. Clearly, tracking down the perfect prom dress is anything but easy. You want to look like the stars on the red carpet, but struggle to find dresses like theirs. Figuring out the correct length, size, material and pattern of your choice can be very difficult, especially when ordering online. Here are some key steps to help find the best fit for you.
What do you want?
The first step is to figure out what kind of dress you want. Long or short, high neck or low neck, leg slit or no leg slit, it all depends on what you want and feel best in. Sometimes shopping in a store can be overwhelming with all the different styles and colors, and usually it’s much easier to narrow it down when you can sort it out on a website. I highly advise anyone who might be looking for a more complex dress or specific style to look online; there is much more of a variety. That being said, if you do decide to shop in person, going to a store where the salespeople are pulling different dresses for you is the best way to shop for dresses in stores.
Figure out your size
When ordering anything online, especially dresses, a major issue can be finding the right size. The first step to solve this issue, though it might sound annoying, is to take your measurements. Most places you order from will have a size chart with the dress of your choice, which are usually spot-on, so knowing your correct size is helpful when ordering online.
Silk, satin, lace and more: there are so many options that sometimes it can be difficult to narrow it all down. So in order to do this, I advise that you scroll through the website and see what pops out to you. If you seem to love lace dresses, try and find one you think will be “the one.” You should also make sure the material you are choosing is good quality. If you are buying a silk dress for under $100, something is probably wrong. Make sure you trust your website. To do this, talk to some friends or find some reviews of their products to see what others think.
In the End: Be Happy
It’s important that you love every part of your dress because if you don’t, odds are you will be unhappy when wearing it to the dance. Make sure that what you’re buying is what you like, not what your mom, dad, siblings or friends like. Buy the dress for you because you’re the one who’s wearing it.
