“This freezing winter has definitely changed what I wear to school now. I pretty much need to wear my ski coat to school everyday,” Owen Skinner ’18 said.
Ski coats, specifically Patagonias, are just one of the new articles of clothing that students are wearing. Vests, also from Patagonia but also Arcteryx, have become much more prevalent since it is too cold for just a sweatshirt. In the past month alone, over two thirds of the days have had a high temperature of 20 degrees or lower.
Boys have also been wearing flannel shirts over their sweatshirts far more often, a new trend.
“I love the sweatshirt and flannel. It makes any boring sweatshirt look awesome,” Max Lonergan ’18 said.
Another item that students have been wearing to combat the cold is the famous pom pom hat. Boys and girls are seen wearing this style of hat in their cars and even in the classroom.
“My mom makes those pom pom hats so I have a ton of them. They are great for the cold and look great,” Donovan Ross ’18 said.
On top of the fact that Westport is experiencing one of the coldest winters in recent history, the heating in the school has also been something that students could not necessarily rely on. Somedays it is far too cold, while others it is far too hot. With this comes winter fashion inside of the classroom.
“I really hate having to wear my coat in class. The school should be comfortable enough for me to not have to wear a winter coat in the classroom,” Luke Welch ’19 said.
While everyone can agree that this unprecedented cold is a burden, the new fashion trends bring a breath of fresh air in the hallways.
